Illustration Friday

Hey this is an illustration I done a while back but thought it fitted the Illustration Friday word quite well. Haven't purposefully drew anything for I.F for a while and although this wasn't intended for I.F I hope this starts the ball rolling for me again.

STICKERS!

Another quick pic. A quick look at some stickers I've been working on. As I've only got a hand full of colours to work with I've had to match colours to characters but managed to pull some corkers I think. These don't take too long to make up and are all hand drawn so I guess each one will have a different look (if thats a good thing?). Also gonna change the SF sickfox placement thing on them, the IronMan looks alright but the Metroid stick looks like shellof so thats gonna needs fixing. Anyway keep an eye out! ES EF

Slowly but surely

Well, it's been a while since my last post (well feels like it anyway) as I think I may have been drawing too much. I was running out of idea's and more and more stuff wasn't working but I spose it's always good to just sit back and take a break from thing's. Anyway every time I hit this wall I always turn back to practicing drawing straight onto my computer using my tablet and this is my latest result. I've been totally obsessed with Blanca from StreetFighter recently I think its colours and also the fact he's some crazy jamaican jungle test subject! Don't see many characters like that knocking about. Anyway gonna leave it at that, and also leave the consoles for a bit think I started off good but don't want to drive it into the ground although I do have plans of trying the same thing with shoes and possibly flogging them on e-bay. But all at a later time. later. SF.

S.N.E.S

Well after having a look through some of the 8-bit artists I got inspired to scribble all over some consoles. Makes sense to make the things look pretty and have them out on show rather than collecting dust. I used Posca pens and although were a lot easier to use instead of paint they still need a few coats and was quite hard to get into the little nooks with the nibs (easy tiger). But it was a first attempt and not too shabby I think. I still have a load more consoles I plan to get through so hopefully will get better the more I go through. Tata. SF.

Predator

Hey, after the last predator post something bugged me about the predator, something wasn't right. So I decided to do this to redeem myself. Arnie's a bit off but at least the predator looks the balls! Later. SF.

Enemy predator INCOMING!

Hey so was thinking while playing Modern Warfare "what if it were an actual predator that came for you instead of the predator missile, heh" one thing led to another and the above was born. Been a lot of fun just drawing away for myself the last couple of day's. Could do this for a living, ah well. Later. SF.

EYE-SCREAM!

This idea just popped into my head. It ain't for any particular purpose just thought I'd draw it up, can't do any harm to practice. Once done this I had the thought of doing some more play on word illustrations. Will have to wait and see how that goes though, so until then. Tata. SF.

Eureka!

After spending some time wondering how to fix the problem of my final pieces it finally dawned on me that it wasn't my technique but my canvas size. This may of been an obvious solution to some but I have a knack of over looking the obvious. Now that I realise my mistake I'm planning on returning to my previous few posts (especially the competition entries) and redoing them. And if that doesn't sort it then I'm buggered. So hopefully they should be some new posts in the next couple of days of clearer pieces. Fingers crossed. SF.

Sweaty Eskimo

So I heard though the grapevine about this website which gave you the beginning of a topic to which you would finish yourself. If I weren't an illustrator.. ..I would lose my mind is how I chose to finish the sentence and went for this detective theme where a guy is literally looking for his lost mind (well brain as i didn't know how to draw a mind!). Anyway think I may return to this as I think I'm rushing my work a bit and paying for it with the sloppiness, but it's late so I'll check it out after the weekend. Tata. SF.

Illustration Friday

This weeks topic was dessert and since I had to spend a few moments trying to remember the difference between dessert and desert, I thought that was an alright idea in itself. Again it's just a quick illustration thrown together, next week I swear I'll take the full week like I used to. Until then though. SF.

EggMag

Well so far this is going to be my entry for the EggMag double page spread.
BRIEF: Please create an illustration which shows, in your own style, that we should all aim to save electricity by turning off lights and standby buttons at night, to decrease light pollution and save energy. You can interpret this in any way you chose.
The site also gave some key words and themes to go by and from theme I came up with this idea. An abandoned room which has been overrun with vines. I added the candles (which was one of the keywords) just to show an alternate form of light. I also added the fireflies just to give some extra light and add to the feel that the outside is coming in. I also added one of those creepy cymbal monkeys for reasons I don't know, but I'm sure there's some kind of arty metaphor in there somewhere. Still not sure on the final look yet so I've just put it on here and I'll probably come back and see how I feel about it then. Anyway till later, take care. SF.

Nothing special

Hey, wasn't originally gonna put this on here but thought about it and surely that's the point of a blog? To show what you've been doing. Well this image was purely for facebook as I was sick of trying to find profile pictures that suited me and since I'm either drunk or pulling an off putting facial expression I thought why not just draw something up purely for my profile. I didn't have any idea what I wanted so just started sketching and came up with this. Reminds me of the old SantaCruz skateboard designs. Anyway, back to the grind. later. SF.

Illustration Friday, The revolution!

Hey there, this weeks illustration friday entry pokes a little fun at the more arty farty part of I.F. Not to be taking seriously though as it is just a bit 0f fun. After being a fan and regular(ish) participator of I.F I've came to notice that none of my favourite group (cartoon) seem to be getting top spot. So I came up with this idea so take that modern impressionist type illustrators! I take a stand for my fellow cartoonists, we might be the Ewoks of the star wars saga that is the illustration world but by god people love us and don't you forget it! S.F

(please don't ban me from Illustration Friday!)

Triumphant return to Illustration Friday! (Hopefully)

Well it's been a while since I entered anything to IF so thought I' get out my rut and submit this week. The topic was Atmosphere and although I don't normally I decided to go with the first thing that came to my head which was this unlucky diver. Again I played around with the lighting and although I think I do still need some improvement until I hammer this skill I think it's worked out not too bad at all! Anyway, more drawings await so until later... SF

Space Filler

Hey kids! Just thought I'd attempt to draw straight onto my computer with my tablet instead of going my usual method of draw - scan - colour. Not a bad attempt, could of used a lil more time on the lighting but apart from that a pretty good outcome. Not sure what's going on in the picture though. Some sort of hobo caveman bear thing going on. Anyway yeah just a quick sketch and something to put up here since i've neglected my blog for a few weeks. Anyway, speak soon, take care, cheerio.SF.

Long time no see!

Well it's been a while but what better way to back in the swing of things than with a Sea Police concept. Basically Sea police is an early stage comic about, well, sea police. One of the many ideas for a possible strip in the comic was Sealems lot, a retelling of Stephen Kings Salems lot. Only difference is of course instead of humans our townsfolk are seals and instead of a bloodsucking vampire it's The Cures frontman Robert Smith! Anyway I basically redrew the original Salems Lot poster with some slight alterations and hey presto, a good little bit of concept.I also received my SketchbookProject sketchbook the other day so will be working hard to attempt to fill that before I must mail it back. No doubt pictures will follow for that. So hopefully be back soon with some other creative goodness! Later.SF.
(I added the original poster just to show the likeness)

Hey, still not on my own computer but since ive had time away from the distraction of the internet ive managed to pull some half decent illustrations outta my ass. first off is the surprise illustration which is a bit too soft on the eyes. Should of maybe stuck to having a black outline but still good idea i reckon. Secondly is prey which i had loads of fun with. i played alot with light on this one and think i came up a treat. lastly is an illustration of a rodeo bull which i plan to tag a friend of mine in on facebook. Again ill have more to say when i get my mits on my own comp.Later.SF

Illustration Friday

Hey so ive had to steal my buddy Dans computer purely to upload for this illustration friday. Thats how dedicated i am. Anyway this weeks word was double so i went for "seeing double" and drew up this friendly neighbourhood hobo who seems to have had one too many. Anyway ill have more to say once i pay my dumb telephone bill and get my internet back, but until then later. SF

MINI competition

Hey so i found this Mini competition (for car maker MINI not just a really small competition) and well didnt really read much into it except it offers a mac book pro for first place! an ipad for second and sumthin else for third. and also for fan favourite you get sumthin like 100 songs for free on itunes, so theyre all pretty decent prizes! anyway the term of the entry were as follows, MUST be to the them "sizzle" MUST contain the colours blue, yellow and green and MUST be 1280p by 800p, other than that anything goes. After looking through the other entries they all seemed to be fancy arty photoshopped stuff like streams of light and 3d images so like the rebel i am i went the other way and tried to go as simple as possible. Couldnt be any further from what i normally do but might stand out from the others. well heres hoping fingers crossed. later SF

Dueling Banjo Pigs

Hey, so this is another blog website thing that allows people to enter their own artwork around the constant theme of "dueling banjo pigs". So i drew this up this morning ( i should really start taking time on my stuff), and tried to enter it. Only problem is they link for the email you need to send it to is set in such a way that i must go through the built in email thing on my mac which is just too confusing and annoying for my tiny brain so until i figure out their emails this will sit here on my blog. Maybe this will give me time to think up something better. later SF
P.S. yeah that is Steve Martins body

Illustration Freitag

Another friday another illustration. i was pretty hot off the bat with this one normally don't get them anywhere near done till at least thursday. this may of course have an effect on the outcome but still quite pleased. this weeks word was breakfast so immediately i thought of serial killer or "cereal" killer so went with that in mind only to notice that once i had completed this there wasn't any actual cereal WEIRD ROFL!! nah but seriously not to bad for a days work, i enjoyed it and thats all that matters right? who cares. later SF

1 day 2 drawings! i'm a machine

Earlier today i stumbled upon Monday Artday and thought id give that a bash as well as illustration friday. Not sure if they're arch rivals or anything but its more experience for me and a chance to get my stuff out there i guess. This weeks week word was connection came up with an octopus trying to find which phone was ringing. Originally it was just an octopus holding the phones but looked bland as hell so thought id tie that sucka up. Anyway thats that. toodle loo SF

Illustration Friday

Ok well this is my second entry to IF and "diary" what a unbelievably difficult word to illustrate. I wanted to do something which wasn't as obvious as someone literally writing in their diary and went through many different ideas and sheets of paper trying to think of something i was happy with. Eventually i tried finding anagrams of diary, there wasn't many so i tried "Dear diary" which could also be "Raided Ray" so here it is a sting being raided, not sure what for but he looks suspicious. The piece itself is totally different to what im used to, only the ray itself is drawn in the same style everything else is images ive messed around with on photoshop with filters and such. Anyway im happy as i can be with diary, hopefully next weeks word isn't as difficult, later SF

Illustration Friday

Well hopefully if this all works and i manage to understand the instructions, this shall be my first entry to Illustration Friday. The topic being Giant i tried to as much as possible avoid the obvious in a sense of the typical giant. i know theres probably thousands of far less obvious but fuck it i drew a kid dressed as a monster. Hopefully once i get more to used the routine of adding a new illustration by each friday i should get more into the swing of things and start producing some pretty funky stuff. Fingers crossed. SF

Friday, 2 July 2010

Hey so haven't updated for a bit, been quite a hectic few weeks and haven't had too much time or want to start a new drawing. But hopefully starting to get back into the swing of things, just today i remembered illustration friday which is something im gonna start religiously entering. Also got a few sketches there ready to finish, Ive been aiming to try and get a whole scene put together instead of drawing single characters, i dont mean to completely stop from doing this but would be nice to see what i could do with an entire scene. But anyway yeah gonna try and get some stuff thrown up before its left too long, catch you later imaginary followers.SF

Thursday, 24 June 2010

Howdy howdy howdy, since i got a fresh crisp new sketchbook yesterday its been sitting there burning holes in my head so i had to just hoy something in it and for some reason the first thing that came to mind was vader so there he is. i originally drew up the rough shapes from memory but soon turned to the trusty star wars vault book for reference on certain details and to be honest i had a hoot creating cartoon versions of boring stuff like clothing and shoes n stuff and while doin this had thought of recreating different film characters in my own style while trying to avoid the obvious like the terminator and rocky. colouring this guy was a pain in the arse since the guy is totally black so i had to find different shades so that each body part was recognisable and also that i didnt lose the outlines and details. but yeah there you go Darth Vader and yeah i know he doesnt really have red eyes but to be honest he doesnt really exist so its all good. later SF
Hey another pic but this is from when i first started college and everything i drew was huge ripped guys fighting shit with big guns (too many nineties comics i think). i found this the other day and thought that i owed it to myself to at least colour it up, its not done that well as it was kinda rushed but thought it was pretty cool as it summed up my earlier style, quite funny when i look back and kinda cringworthy when i see how big that guys package is! quite err gay but hey i was influenced by comics. but yeh just thought itd put it up, an end of a era if you will and for good reason. anyway just bought new sketchbook so ill be uploading some more up to date pieces without huge bulges. later SF

A whole new bunch of crap

Right-o as promised heres the drawings i said i was working on starting with the country hick dragon. Really pushed it with oversized body parts and this originally took up a whole A3 page. I really wanted a very cartoon dragon, something that looked ubber friendly. The dragons feet have to be my favourite part of this drawing very pleased with them. Second is the angry squid, wasn't sure how this was going to turn out but not too bad i originally tried the matching coloured outline on the pirate skeleton but used again for the squid which i think really brings to picture to life. Lastly is the pirate skeleton Salty Bones Jones, when is was sketching this up i hated it and never thought it was gonna work but after using a darker shade of colour for the outline of the body part it was outlining?!?!(confused yet?) it turned out being my favourite of the three. So now that ive found out a new swish method of outlining i reckon this is gonna be the norm for me now. Anyway back to the sketchbook for more ideas. Adios muchachos. SF

FIGHT THE POWER!

Well since recently finding out that the bank is daylight robbing the shit out of me and that i may have to turn to actual hunting to feed myself for the next few weeks this weekends been a bit of a downer to be fair. But on the bright side ive threw together some decent sketches that should hopefully keep my mind off things and prove to be pretty awesome when finished. Including an angry squid frustrated with bad tv reception, a cowboy caveman and country hick dragon, as per usual none of these sound any good but they should be up this week if x box doesnt take over my life again. So until then. SF

P.S How the fuck do you get people to follow a blog??? Pardon the french but c'mon!

Friday, 18 June 2010

Reet well just finished (well, not finished just got sick of) the gorilla vs whale pic. Thought it was gonna come together while i coloured it up but still seems bit bland, prob just me getting bored way too easily midway through drawings. But anyway i changed the colour of the outlines of the crowd which took some time but kinda worked and now that ive had a fiddle with this method im gonna put it to the test. Im busy working on a weird pirate skeleton thing inspired by Captain Morgans rum where i hope to give each part of the drawing an outline that matches the colour of that part??? if that makes any sense? should be up soon enough so you'll see anyway. later days.SF

Two blogs in one day, check me out.

Since i was canny impressed by the outcome of the jason drawing i tried to see if i could use the same style for something else, which happened to be mortal kombat. Not a bad drawing, i redrew the outlines so that they were thicker and moved them closer together, you wont really know what im on about cause i haven't put the original up but it was shite. My only problem with this drawing is zub zeros cabbage hand but hey was just a test. The head stack was just a doodle that i just finished on the computer as im addicted to the live trace tool on illustrator, its awesome draw something up in pen live trace and hey presto fancy ass picture. But anyway im busy drawing a whale fight a gorilla in a boxing match so toodle loo.

Right well been done with college for bout 2 weeks now and these are pretty much the only drawings ive done since. Trying to get back into the swing of drawing whatever i feel instead of working towards a brief. Anywas im nuts for the jason in the middle but think the cap america is bit rushed not really that decent, but still least the robots got underwear.
Hopefully this blog thing will be updated quite often and my artwork (along with my blogging skills) will get a lot better, until then later. SF

It's all in the reflexes

Well this is my new blog which is totally dedicated to my own personal artwork. My previous blog was all about college and similar related shite, not that college was shite, total opposite, i think that ive learned alot from the two years ive studied at newcastle college. Ive found out about artists who have influenced me greatly and also different ways to approach my work.
But anyway before i start getting too emotional and start harping on about how much i loved college i think i best just leave it at that and let the blogging begin, hopefully ill be adding alot of work to this and grow more powerful than i could ever have imagined!.. ..ok that was lame but screw it lets get this shit started. SF
